Frequently Asked Questions

1.  How do I book a Tour?

-To book a Tour, simply fill out the Get Started form here.  Once completed, someone will be in touch within 24-48 hours to setup a consultation call.  You can choose to have as many participants on the call as you'd like, but we'll use this time to go over the particulars of your Tour, to make sure you're getting exactly what you're looking for.  Once that's completed, we'll send you a personalized quote.  Assuming you're in agreement with the quote and the particulars, you'll be provided with payment options to send us your deposit.

2.  Do I need to bring my own bike?

-Yes you do.  We don't currently offer bike rentals, and we feel that you're going to enjoy your Tour much more on a bike you know well and are accustomed to.

3.  Is there a minimum number of participants for a Tour to be booked?

-Yes, and that number is 1.  😂. In all seriousness, our Tour model doesn't depend on a minimum number of participants, so we can do it with as many, or as few, participants as you wish.

4.  Can we choose our own hotels?

-Yes.  While we work with hotels that we believe are first-rate, and we know have the amenities we're going to need to have a successful Tour, you're certainly welcome to select your own hotel.  We do ask, however, that you let us know the hotel you're considering, so that we can contact them and ensure they'll be able to accommodate all that's required.

5.  How fit do I need to be?

-That depends on the Tour.  While we believe that we can put together a week that could fit nicely into any cycling Grand Tour due to the wide variety of routes available to us, this isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea (not everyone wants to climb every single hill within a 100km radius).  Over the course of our consultation call, we'll discuss your options and cycling level so that we can put something together that suits you and then we'll go over each ride with you in detail prior to you committing and booking.  We aim to provide a challenging and pleasant experience, but we still want you to be able to walk to the bathroom unassisted after a ride. 😎

 6.  Is there an age minimum/maximum?

-There's no age maximum.  We'll work together to design a Tour that suits you.  Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

7.  Do you do Tours in other countries/cities?

-YES!  If you're looking for someone to plan your Tour in a specific place and to handle the logistics ahead of and during the rides, we can work with you to make it happen.  We'll even head over a few days before you to check out the routes, if you'd like.

8.  I've booked a long Tour but I don't want to bring a change of cycling clothes for every day.  Do you handle laundry?

-Laundry services are available.  If done at one of the hotels we'll be staying at, their rates will apply.  If our stay in that hotel is too short for laundry to be done, we'll take your kit off-site to be cleaned.

9.  Is there an 'all-inclusive' meal and drinks package?

-We do offer all-inclusive meal packages, but these do not include alcohol.

10.  How safe are the roads?

-We ride away from major highways, and only ride on busier roads if there's an adequate shoulder for us to use.  Every ride is staffed with follow cars, who will protect you, and at least one of us will be riding with you to point out any potential hazards, should they arise.

11.  What if I wake up on a ride day, and just can't do it?

-No problem.  This has happened to all of us.  If this happens and we happen to be staying in the same hotel after the day's ride, you can remain behind, or join us in one of the follow cars (we'll put your bike on the roof in case you change your mind).  If we're going to another hotel after the ride, you can hitch a ride with the luggage transfer car to the next destination and we'll meet you there.  We'll contact the hotel to let them know you're coming along.

12.  What if I get hurt?

-We really hope this doesn't happen, but if it does, we'll take care of you.  All Guides are fully trained in CPR/First Aid are always aware of the closest medical facility regardless of where we are, and will take you there if needed.  We'll also stick around to provide translation services while you're being cared for.  We also have contacts within the medical community for less serious issues (such as strains or pulls) and can often arrange on-site consultations at the hotel.  We cannot stress enough how important it is that you have travel insurance that will cover you during your stay.

13.  My family wants to come along, but they don't ride bikes.  What can they do?

-We offer a range of activities for the whole family so they'll have fun too (just not as much fun).  These attractions can be found here.  If you're looking for specific experiences (day spas, museum tours, etc) let us know in the consultation call so we can gather some options.

14.  Do all EpicCycloTours guides speak English?

-Yes.

15.  Something came up and I need to cancel.  What do I do?

-We understand that things happen, and we do our best to be as accommodating as possible.  If you're canceling at least 15 days before your arrival date, we'll refund you in full.  For our full cancelation policy, please see here.

16.  Are there limitations on electronic devices (or other items) that I can bring in to Mexico?

-Yes, there are, and there have been a few press reports on the matter.  While the list is outdated, the rules have not been updated.  In terms of electronics, the following are permitted.

  • 3 cell phones

  • 1 GPS unit (Garmin, Wahoo, etc)

  • 1 laptop or tablet or similar computing device.  NOTE: Mexico makes no distinction between a tablet and a laptop.  You may only bring in one of these types of items.

  • One pair of binoculars.

The full list of items that are permitted/prohibited can be found here.
